It'retarded that theme show will be replaced!!
BTW-- my DVD comes next Wednesday!!!--
I preordered it weeks ago for one-day shipping!!
So I'm expecting mine May 10th!!
The DVD review on sitcoms online said that the theme is intact for just the pilot episode so at least we get to hear it once.
Everwood and Veronica Mars need to get renewed!!!
That's a change!!! The pilot episode is one of my favorite
episodes too!!

I am hoping fans can accept the DVD version of the theme song for "Life Goes On." Because I'm the guilty one.
I will let Warner Bros. speak to the reasons why the song needed to be replaced but they asked me to create something original for the DVD.
Trying to capture what the original had with the cast singing a well-known Beatles song which already evokes its own set of emotions in all of us would be tragic to say the least. The result would be a very disappointing, watered down ghost of the original. I took a risk and created something that was inspired by my own admiration for the show and its rich characters. And the song turned out to be its own thing. To my knowledge, the open sequence has not changed. It is the exact same length and contains the same visuals. I personally thought it came out sweet and charming. I knew going in that replacing this loved opening theme would be a losing proposition and that people will want to hate it. But I think the song works very well and I hope it grows on you. Looking forward to its release tomorrow. Enjoy (if you can). Whether you like the song or not, you can at least know that much care went into the doing of it by someone who has great respect for the show and its fans.
Marc Jackson
Marc,
Thanks. It's rare that someone such as yourself would come here and open yourself up to a barrage of flame posts. I, for one, loved the show and the opening, but I realize, for financial reasons most likely, that getting a Beatles song for the opening of a 12 year old series would be unlikely at best. One of my favorite series went through a questionable period whether it would be release at all, without some of the original music, or be $200 for one season on DVD. Fortunately Freaks and Geeks made the cut without losing any of it's original music. Now if we can just get Wonder Years on DVD...
And thanks again for coming on here to placate some people. I hope it works.
Thank you. I appreciate that.
shareThat really sucks. The point of the DVD release for most would be it's nostalgic quality. I think that I'm going to be hideously disappointed when I hear the new song, not because it's going to be a bad song for the images, or that it isn't suitable in it's own right, but because there's no way it can evoke the nostalgia of sitting down to the show every Sunday night. The show itself will bring back many memories, I'm sure, but the theme song helps get the viewer "into it", especially in the case of a revived show from so long ago.
shareI completely agree with you. When it is a show you like, that theme coming on evokes emotions. And anticipation. True.
In a lot of cases where a popular song was either in a series or in this case was the actual main title, it becomes a choice for the studio to either replace the song or place the show on the shelf and simply not release it. Song replacement is an option to get the fans the shows they love. And though the sacrifice does suck, it does become a trade off that makes sense.
Another thing to consider is that in some cases, it isn't even a matter of cost that is the issue. Sometimes permission to purpose the song is actually not granted for whatever reason. This makes the music unclearable. That can freeze a release from ever happening unless a compromise happens.
The good news is that nowadays songs are mostly cleared for all media or with options for new purposing built into the agreements which will make these occurences fewer and fewer.
I am a hugh fan of the beatles . i also love life goes on as a preteen . but i dont like the new song, but it may just need to get used too. i do see why they would have ( who every put the dvds out) a problem putting the cast verison of o da ba da on the opening credit. cause i remenber tiffany sing a remix of a beatles' song and so did boyz to men. if that is one of the song michael jackson owned he better of not had a problem with them using it. But then a again song is kind of wierd cause i remenber them letting madonna sing this used to be my playground for a league of their own but it did not apear on its soundtrack .
So who actually owns that song ? Sony or sir paul MaCartney?
At the present time the rights to Oo Bla Di, Oo Bla Da (Life Goes On) belong to:
TA DA
Michael Jackson, and HE'S the one that would not release it for re-use on the DVD series. But fear not! Mr. Jackson is under EXTREME pressure to build up his capitol and under even GREATER pressure to finally sell back the rights to The Beatles catalogue to Sir Paul and Ringo (and the estates of John and George) so it is very possible that once the rights have been re-cleared by the remaining Fab Four that the song will be re-issued back onto the succeeding seasons of LGO.

i thought he sold some of the songs to his record company to get him out of debt . Cause i thougth he may have try ro sell them back to the remaining beatles.. it would make more sense if he was in so much in debt to let the life goes on dvd have the song in the begining for so much money intil he actually sells them to whom every. do you understand . I mean every time the song got played he got money when it was on the air . so if the dvds went for 30 dollars and there 22 episodes on the dvds and there 2000 sold he should get something for them being on them .
but i thought he already sold the beatles songs to someone in april or earlier may
Mr. Jackson did sell a small amount of The Beatles catalogue but it was not disclosed which ones; the possibility that Oo Bla Di, Oo Bla Da was one of them is not high on the percentage list.
As for your mathmatical expertise I think the Bush administration could use someone like you to balance the US budget - bold concept in fiscal ingenuity, absolutely NO way to make it work! (Sarcasm, thy name is me!)

Marc Jackson here. Writer of the replacement theme. Just chiming in that there is no relation to Michael. :-)
shareMr. Marc Jackson. I was not implying any relationship between you and The Gloved One. My apologies for any confusion. I hope that I did not offend; it was not my intention. I was only pointing out to the thread about MICHAEL JACKSON creating the snafu here.
Again, my apologies for any confusion.
Don't hate me because I'm beautiful (because I'm not)
No apology necessary. I was jesting. But thank you for that. What is the point of a single glove anyway? Or the marching band uniform for that matter? And how is it that after observing Mike (as I like to call him) for over a decade now, the behavior is no less odd?
(Rhetoricle questions)
PS. Did you know the story goes that supposedly, Mike got the idea for making money by purchasing music publishing from Sir Paul when they were shooting a duet video together? He used Paul's advice against him. Nice work.
For your P.S.
The video was for the MJ & Sir Paul duet of "Say, Say, Say"
Not a very creative song for either one of them, actually.
(As I type this I am listening to YOUR theme...I'm watching the entire season 1 series as fast as I can!)
Don't hate me because I'm beautiful (because I'm not)
Well done on both counts.
