The real life Fr Dowling mystery.

Those of us who loved the old show, have been stunned by this real life "Fr Dowling" mystery.

Fr Patrick Dowling of Jefferson City, Missouri has been identified as the angel priest who appeard on the scene unexpectedly on a lonely highway, as the one who administered the last rites to a girl trapped in the car.

This story has gone viral all over the Internet, the last couple of days, with the wildest conjectures as to who he actually was.

Having met Ralph McInerney a few times in my life (he was the man, an academic at Notre Dame University who wrote the Fr Dowling books from which the series was adapted from, God rest his soul!), he would be delighted that a Fr Dowling was connected to a conundrum.
