Does this mean that this took place in a world where the Invisible Man,

docsavage80: Okay, the premise of the film is that Lincoln stole 18 mementos and pieces of the homes of foul people who had lived in the past so that they could live again.

So does this imply that in this world's history, not only was Jack the Ripper and the Marquis de Sade real, but a werewolf, the Frankenstein Monster, the Hunback of Notre Dame, the Phantom of the Opera, the nutty zombies from Hell, the Invisible Man, Mr. Hyde, the It's Alive baby, Audrey from Little Shop of Horrors, etc. were all real? Well, since it takes place in a world with a real Satan/The Devil, I guess so, but these characters must have been active on this Earth before 1948 (Lincoln steals mementos then).

you're right. that doesn't make any sense. then again, i wouldn't have expected the movie to make any sense.

I geuss it could mean he got them from similar people in history. Like something of the real count Dracula's and then created this fantastic scenario with them.

For noone noone in this world can you trust. Not men, not women, not beasts.
This you can trust.

I think Lincoln means that the 18 ancient artifacts he had came from 18 evil souls (murderers, rapists etc).

Bringing them back as fictional figures was just his was of making it interesting.

I don't think Lincoln's implying that Dracula, the mummy, the werewolf actually existed at one time.

Yes, i think it means they all existed. Like the mask of the Phantom, as worn by the Phantom himself. He collected them all from somewhere, anywhere and he started in 1948.

Oh, and Jack the Ripper and Marquis De Sade where real people, in this world i mean.

Also, it should be noted that the scenes the figures are displayed in are in fact scenarios that happened in their past histories. In other words, the "victims" were living in historical "playbacks" rather than pure fiction made up by Lincoln.

Historical playbacks is a good way of putting it.

As to the original question, you just have to suspend your disbelief and roll with it. The de Sade segment is my favorite, for instance, but if I start tallying up everything that's inaccurate about it, my head will explode.

Haha, I agree with the head exploding. I mean, because they often sacrificed realism for the theatrical. It worked for me because of how the experience was layed out when it was actually playing by keeping me more than busy. Even if things don't line, the very idea of little portals, where you get to see all these monsters, more than opened up my imagination.
