Mark + Sarah as a Couple?

Sarah tells Mark she is "looking for something different" when they first kiss. We assume this means a long-term commitment and not just casual sex. Then, later, we see what Sarah means by "different", that she has her first orgasm from S&M.

So, Mark knows that in order for Sarah to be happy, he would have to get into some kind of S&M, or D/s thing with him being the D and her being the s. I guess he would be... spanking her?. The girl seemed to be hard core. Could she be happy with a belt cracking across her ass instead of the lash being used on her back?

I think it was because Sarah was a virgin and like you said didn't want just casual sex or a little fling since I think she sensed Mark still had feelings for China. I do think she was very carious about the Marquis de Sade and what sex would be like if it was dangerous. As we saw in the movie she got a little taste of it and loved it, but of course didn't understand the dangers behind it. In the sequel Sarah and Mark are more sorta like a couple, even so much as him saying he loves her and her going back in time to be with each other.

I once read a supposedly 'official' explanation that the book in the attic hypnotized Sarah and that was the only reason that she entered the display. Personally, I prefer to believe that she was just kinky.

She was drawn to the Marquis De Sade's display the first time they visited the Waxwork. If it hadn't been for Mark telling her they should leave, she would've walked into it sooner. She was even quoting the Marquis to Mark. And that was a while before she found that book in the attic.
