Kid (father) drinking!

There are several scenes in the movie where the father is drinking while in his son's body. I didn't like this at all! That was not his body he was putting alcohol in, it was the body of a minor. What if the son already had it in his genes from his parents and started becoming addicted or something similar. I know this is far fetched but it can take very little depending on the person. Bottom line it was wrong and unfair.

shush. most minors drink anyway. thats life, i started drinking when i was 14 and now im 27 and not an alcoholic, and besides, its a movie.

reply

I agree. Kids have been known to nip a bit of alcohol even though they aren't supposed to. Plus, the Mom walked in on it and totally blasted them for it, so it's not like they didn't have to suffer the consequences.

reply

uh, it is more simple than that. He's not a kid, he just looks like one. The end.
Okay, not the end, one more thing. Would you be offended if Judge Reinhold were drinking? Like a scene where he buys alcohol because he looks like he can? THAT would be the "wrong" scene.

reply

Ha ha ha, then end...no wait.

I forgot that their bodies only looked like the other. It was still the father's body, only altered. I thouhgt that they actually switched like in Freaky Friday.

Started when I was 13. (1983). Not saying it's right, just something kids do. Luckily the kids I hung out with were smart about it and we understood there was a place and time to do it. Letting it get out of hand was out of the question. Getting back to the movie... I think that was part of the humor to see the dad in a kids body having a drink. I don't know that kind of thing wasn't viewed in the way it is now. No it' wasn't ok for a kid to drink or smoke but we weren't so uptight about it. Now it's to where you can't even show it in a movie anymore.

I don't think you ever saw Fred actually drinking. He had a glass in his hand a couple of times but the audience never saw him take a gulp. For all we know he was foiled whenever he decided to try and do it.

No, we did see him take a sip when Judge first gives him the glass and Fred makes the "uggh" face as if he made it too strong.

reply

OK - I've only seen it once so I'll take your word for it. My mistake... !

Theres a scene where the father is in Fred Savage's body and the son is in Judge Reinholds body (I think its the third time we see the father-in-a-kids-body drinking a martini) and the kid (in Reinholds body) says "You drink a lot, dont you, Dad?" and the father (in Savage's body) says "Only when Im stressed. And the past few days have been very stressful". I have to say I agree with him. If i woke up in my ten year old daughters body that would definately drive me to drink!

And I agree with the other poster who said it wouldve been worse if the son - now in a grown up body - was buying liquor and or hitting bars.

it's...just...a...MOVIE!

Whether or not it's appropriate for kids to drink (which it isn't) aside, one would think that the father would have a little more respect for his sons body.

if you go to the UK, a family can privately give their children alcohol at the tender age of 5.

And that's why it's awesome to live here!

He seemed to drink a lot. I was wondering why he never had any concern for his son's health.

I understand your concern, but I thought it was hilarious. The image of little Fred Savage with a classic Martini in his hand just looked funny.

But, if it made you cringe, that is a good thing.

While it was inappropriate for the dad to consume all that alcohol while he was trapped in his son's body, at the end of the day it was all done for laughs (and yes, it fit the story).

Lil' Fred Savage just casually drinking like an adult. 
