missing Brady movie!!!

Okay, having just watched "A Very Brady Christmas" on TV, I have now begun a very unhealthy quest for the name of next TV installment...But this is the last brady movie listed...Does ANYONE else recall the next movie in which Bobby gets into an accident while racing cars and ends up paralyzed? And the real Cindy is in this one--she's a radio DJ...And there's something wrong with Greg's life--he's getting divorced or something--but i can't recall what. Please say someone knows what the hell I'm talking about. I fear I may be insane. And if not, I'm going to go insane with one of those "on the tip of my tongue" attacks.

You're thinking of the 2-hour pilot of "The Bradys," a dramatized version of the Brady Bunch which ran in 1990. You can find it in the IMDB. It was followed by 1-hour episodes which continued the injured Bobby storyline, along with Jan's inability to conceive, Marcia's drinking problem, Cindy's love life, etc.

Hope this helps!

Oooooh! Okay, I saw that Brady show on the list and I thought, "When the hell was that show? Why don't i remember it?" But I do! Which really makes me sort of sad because my next thought was, "Well at least I was spared THAT trainwreck."
Alas.
Thanks so much for your help, Futura!

what do you mean trainwreck

reply

If you read the description of the dramatic Brady series, having never seen it(or, in my case, unaware that you have ever seen it) it really does sounds like a trainwreck.
But I am sure that it was lovely...I certainly enjoyed the dramatic fireball that they lobbed at me during the pilot movie...

Speaking of which: So it WAS a TV movie!!! HUZZAH!!! Vindication!

omg thank god!! i have been looking for this movie all over this website. i thought "wait...wasn't there a movie where bobby gets into a car crash and jan adopts and it had something like "500" in the title?"
im so glad i found this topic

i had no idea it was the pilot for "the bradys". makes me sort of depressed, because now there's no way of me buying or renting it. (besides the fact that i thought it was a movie and it ended up with bobby's disability unresolved)

anyone know where i could get a copy or something?

The Brady's started out as sa 2 hour movie where Bobby becomes a race-car driver and becomes a paraplegic. There were only 4 more 1-hour episodes after that. The main points of the show that I remember (some of these have been mentioned already):

- Marcia and her family move back in with the Brady's because Wally can't keep a job. Marcia becomes depressed and becomes an alcoholic. Leah Ayers played Marcia, and was Maureen McCormick was the only original Brady not to reprise her role.

- Jan and Philip cannot have children and adopt a little Korean girl.

- Cindy is a radio DJ and is dating her boss, who is a lot older and has kids.

- The Brady house is going to be torn down for a new freeway ramp, and in order to block this from happening, Mike runs for and wins a City Councilman position. I think they still ended up having to move their house on a flatbed truck. The last episodes focus on his campaign.

- Booby, who is in a wheelchair, marries his girlfriend Tracy, who was played by Martha Quinn, the old MTV VJ. I can't remember if Bobby is able to walk again by the end of the series. I thought he did.

That was pretty much it, I think.

Mike wins the elections because he is so honest. But after the election he proposes a plan that involves Jan as the architect, Peter as the business manager and Bobby as the software expert. Talk about blatant conflict of interest! So much for the honest politician. Sure didn't take long for Mike to get corrupted.

Bobby does not walk again. He gets around on crutches and braces and HOPES one day to walk again.

The last episode was not the political campain. There were six shows in all. The first being the 2 hour show where Bobby becomes paralyzed. The second is when the Bradys move their house to a new location. The third and fourth are a 2-parter episode when Mike runs for counsilman. The fifth episode is when Marcia has a drinking problem (she does not become an alcoholic, she only has a drinking problem.

The sixth and last episode is when Marcia, Nora (Greg's wife) and Tracy (Bobby's wife) get together to form a catering company in Sam's old butcher shop. The company is called "The Party Girls" and they specialize in themed parties. Mike hires them to receive an Australian dignitary and Mickey (Marcia's son) who takes the phone message understands "Austrian", so the party has an Austrian theme. Greg and Peter have a huge fight because Peter never had time for Greg anymore. At the party Peter chokes on some food. Greg, the doctor, saves Peter with the Heimlich Maneuver and mouth to mouth recessatation.

You're right, I remember now that the campaign was not at the very end. Oh well, it's been a very, very long time since I saw any of those episodes. I also remember the catering company and Peter's choking episode now that you mention it. I did look up the episdoes in IMDB and Wikipedia and was able to find most of what you said as well. It does bring back the memories.

The series wasn't that great, but I wish it would have lasted at least half a season.
