Did anyone ever wonder why Alice...

...still called the Bradys "Mr & Mrs Brady?" Mike & Carol would tell her over & over she was no longer their housekeeper, and referred to her as a good friend. So why, as a good friend, didn't she start calling them "Mike & Carol?" Wouldn't that make sense? I know, it's only tv, it's not supposed to make sense! :o)

You want the real answer or fake answer. The real answer is it's a TV show. In writing the reunion movie, the writers obviously didn't want to rock the boat and wanted things pretty similar to the way we remembered them on the show. Thus, having Alice call Mike & Carol "Mr. and Mrs. Brady" was how it was back in the day, just like wearing her blue housekeeper outfit. It would be odd to hear her call them Mike and Carol.

Now the fake answer. Force of habit. After years of calling them "Mr. and Mrs." old habits are hard to break.

I know it's just TV. That's why I pointed that out in my last sentence! LOL

What I meant was that because it's a TV show, writers had to keep thing familiar to what we remembered on the show. In real life, people change, but on our TV shows we like our characters to have a certain sense of familiarity.

I wonder if you're familiar with "The Courtship of Eddie's Father" series. Mrs. Livingston, the housekeeper/chef for the Corbetts, still calls Tom "Mr. Eddie's Father" throughout...! Now that's much more unrealistic to me than Alice's formality.

No, I never saw that show. However, I do remember that on the "Mary Tyler Moore Show" Mary kept referring to Lou as "Mr. Grant" for all those years. All his other employees/friends called him Lou, but she still called him Mr. Grant! I do remember one episode that she actually called him Lou...and it was because she was angry with him about something...and he totally freaked out! LOL :o)

On "The Nanny," Fran called Maxwell "Mr. Sheffeld." Not sure if she stopped calling him that after they married tho.

On the old, black & white "Gunsmoke" episodes, Dennis Weaver's character Chester is Matt Dillon's deputy and he continues to call him "Mr. Dillon." Another good example, I thought.
