Whatever he was wearing, he looked damn hot in it, and I was fifteen years old when that movie first aired, and I was checking out his legs and also trying to figure out if he was wearing underwear or freeballing it!
Peter had the honor of saying "Hell" in the Brady Bunch Christmas special. I dig it.
And yeah, the night shirt was hilarious. I didn't know it was see-through though. What a bonehead. I wonder what the story of that was when the costume people had him wear it.
Costume director: "Hey Chris. Glad I found you. Here's your costume for the next scene they'll be filming between you and Bobby."
Chris Knight: "Heh. But this is a nightgown."
Costume director: "Night shirt actually."
Chris Knight: "Yeah. I don't know if I can wear this. Isn't there like a full pajama thing I can with bottoms?"
Costume director: "Well, Mike Lookinland already called dibbs. It's this or nothing."
Chris Knight: "Why, you little minx."
Costume director: "No, that's not what I meant. Look, just be a sport and sport this sporty night shirt, would ya?"
Chris Knight: "What's so sporty about this? It's pinstriped or something."
Costume director: "Just like the Yankee's old uniforms."
Chris Knight: "But you can see through it."
Costume director: "We need to appeal to women in their '40s. Would ya just be cool and wear it?"
Chris Knight: "... Gimme the shirt and let's do this thing."
Night shirts were very IN back then! I had several of them myself for several years before this movie came out and still had one at the time. I'm sure Chris had NO problems wearing it because it was cool back then.
"I'd rather believe what I believe and be wrong than believe what you believe and be wrong."
I really don't ever remember nightshirts being IN during the late 80's, at least in the States. I thought they were more popular about a hundred years ago. Even if guys wore them in the late 80's, I'd hardly say they were cool.
I was married in 1980 and on my wedding night I wore a nightshirt. Then I wore a nightshirt for many years after that, so yes they were 'in' back then. The fact that Peter wore an nightshirt is proof that they were 'in' and they were cool. The Bradys always had 'in' clothes.
"I'd rather believe what I believe and be wrong than believe what you believe and be wrong."
Just because you wore something and liked it back then doesn't mean that it was "in". I know not everything I've ever worn was the most popular.
And I would hardly say that the Brady's always had "in" clothes. I thought it was quite the opposite. I don't remember if it was the E True Hollywood story or some other interviews with the former cast members, but I seem to remember some of the cast (Susan Olsen or Chris Knight, maybe?) saying that even the clothes they wore during the original series were not the most fashionable things in the world and were even a little dorky at times. Since I was born in 1973, however, I don't remember the fashions of that day firsthand, but based on pictures, other TV shows, and movies that took place around that time, I tend to believe they were right. And I have never remembered nightshirts being "in" during any time of my life.
Well I am the same age as Chris Knight and I lived through the era and the clothes the kids wore on the show were very cool back then!
I did not mean in my post that the Bradys had cool clothes by today standards. I mean they had cool clothes by the standards of back then. Just because people hate those clothes today doesn't mean they were not cool back then. You can't make a fasion judgement with today's standard and say they were not cool clothes. If they hadn't been cool the costume department wouldn't have given them to them because the Bradys were in style at all times during their run.
"I'd rather believe what I believe and be wrong than believe what you believe and be wrong."
I know you weren't indicating that their clothes were cool compared to today's standards, and I was not implying that, either. Obviously that wouldn't be the case. I was also not making a fashion judgement for something from the 70's based on today's standards. I'm a little more intelligent than that.
Obviously styles from the 70's aren't in style now. What I was saying was that I heard in an interview somewhere that the Brady kids now thought that the clothes they were wearing weren't that cool, even by early 70's standards. It's just what I heard.
I understand that what they wore was the style back then. However, I don't think they wore the trendiest or coolest fashions out there. The clothes may have been acceptable, but I think they were a little on the boring, or even dorky side, even by 70's standards. But, you grew up during that era, so I guess you'd know.
Actually, since the show was basically set in Los Angeles ... and it was the late 60s - early 70s ... Those were the clothes that people were wearing ... I grew up back then & there and those were the clothes that I saw everyday on people in Los Angeles ...
The cords, bell bottoms, Hang Ten shirts, the deck shoes ... That was standard issue wardrobe in SoCal ...
It happens with every generation ... when you look back at the clothes that you wore when you were a kid, you always think they're dorky, lame, etc ...
I agree that night shirt Peter wore has definately not been a popular item for men in over a hundred years. All Peter needed was a lanturn, to see in the dark with, in order to complete his look.
It especially seems odd when you consider Peter's 'playboy' character a few years later during "The Bradys" where he just doesn't seem the type to be so modest. :P
well maybe he was wearing bikini briefs and strutting around and Mike called him out on his "un-Brady behavior" and made him wear one of his (or Carols!) night shirt gowns!
A lantern! Too funny.
Im kicking myself because yesterday I was trying to motivate myself to do my Christmas cards so I put VERY BRADY CHRISTMAS as background noise ...and I totally forgot to look for the Peter Nightie Scenes so I could squint and see his underwear! Im gonna have to watch it again some time soon!
Yes I am a pervert, but c'mon! This thing came out 20 years ago and Peter is STILL hot!
