Anyone else think Disney has some nerve plastering "Walt Disney Studios Presents" at the top of special edition DVD?
Half of the credits on the front of the DVD are for Walt Disney and the American voice actors. Most people unfamiliar with what Ghibli is, glancing at it would probably assume it was made by Disney in America.
They pasted their logos all over every last single Studio Ghibli film they've distributed in the USA. It is pretty vomit-inducing, but that's Di$ney for you.
Just be grateful they didn't put Hannah Montana or one of those Jonas creeps in the extras.
Well, Disney DID present it, so what's wrong with that? If you look at the cover of Hostel for example (sorry for the drastic genre difference) it says "Quentin Tarantino Presents". He actually had nothing to do with the film, other than putting his name on the posters and boxes so people would pick it up, thinking it was a Quentin Tarantino film.
If writing "Disney Presents" on the box gets more people to pick up this film and watch this masterpiece, then I'm okay with that. If people like the film, they may very well search up the director, which would inevitably lead them to Studio Ghibli.
Unlike QT, Disney actually distribute Studio Ghibli's films (in the US, at least - not sure about Europe), so they're within their rights to present it as such on the video cover. I never thought I'd say THAT about the House of Mouse! :)
