I wouldn't call it parody though because it's not making fun of the original, it just copies it. Isn't homage a better term for this?
I haven't seen any new episodes yet but I do recall spotting Totoro in the 'Imagination Land' episodes.

i freaked lol! i got so excited, my husband had never seen totoro (it was my favorite movie from the time i first got it when i was about 3, i just re-bought it...although disney changed all the original voices since it was originally a fox searchlight film in america and they changed a few words around. like soot spirits are now soot gremlins and the tadpoles used to be called pollywogs not tadpoles...) anyways. youtube has a side by side of both scenes lol i had to show him
