REEEEEEALLY needs a sequel!
We really need to see more of Totoro somehow. It's been 26 years now since this came out.

shareThere is a sequel. A short film Miyazaki directed called 'Mei & the Kitten bus'.
Though you won't have any luck finding it. It only plays at the Ghibli Museum in Tokyo & is not available online in anything that you could call watchable.
Maybe one day in the future now that Miyazaki is retired they'll release his significant amount of short film work - about 8 shorts all running more than 10 minutes each - on DVD/Blu-ray.

I hope someday they do release all his short films. They can package them together like the Pixar shorts. I'd buy it.

If someone's creative enough they could make a good sequel.
But I don't think there's too much demand for a follow up. I guess what someone could do is have Satsuki and/or Mei in the parent's role while their kids do whatever with the spirits. It would be lame though if it ended being like a remake.
