The Best Part of the Ad Message...

It's a sledge hammer message and it's not subtle at all.

There was something odd at first about watching a movie give me a message about how messaging is bad, but the fact is that the message of They Live is so up-front that it doesn't qualify for its own criticism, and so deftly sidesteps hypocrisy.

If it were subtle, it wouldn't work because it would be what it's mocking and saying is bad.

There's lots to love about it - I admire greatly the messages they chose, not just "OBEY", but also stuff like, "GET MARRIED; REPRODUCE" and the way it bent specific ads to reflect what the aliens' message was. Great stuff.

It's really making me re-think culture in its entirely. Amazing movie.
