Absolutely Love the 'Look' of this Movie

I've seen this movie so many times and it's amazing how great everyone and everything looks; the beach scenes, the restaurant, etc. I agree with another poster, this deserves a Special Edition DVD. This is before we knew too much about Mel too and he's so good here including the scene where he reveals his feelings for Michelle Pfeiffer. Yes, it's a guilty pleasure but a fun one.

I just loved those 1980s Warner Bros movies.

As a Manhattan Beach resident who owns a house a block away from the principle , the visuals are right on. Their are many movies filmed here in South Bay which encompasses Playa Del Ray, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, and Redondo Beach and are just too numerous to mention. Tequila Sunrise is a metaphor for the location.

it's a metaphor for passion!

me too. the look is perfect. i think it's probably the photography more than the location, though. for example the restaurant shots were inside a warehouse on a sound stage at the studio lot

for me this is the lighting i remember the late 80s in, when i recall things. it's like the whole decade had this beautiful amber light wafting over it

I agree...I was born and raised in Northern CA and haven't gotten to that part of my beautiful state in years. But IMO, I think any part of the coast is just awesome...especially at sunset. If I could afford to, I'd surely live on the water...anywhere on the coast would do.

I love the music too, and the feel.

Couldn't agree more, goldenskies. I was watching this movie again tonight on cable (I only have it on VHS, so watching it in HD is a real treat) and thinking how evocative it was of that period in time.

I was also thinking "Why don't they make movies like this anymore?," the subject of another thread here, albeit an older one. Really, great cast, great plot, convincing acting, ace dialogue, beautiful cinematography, soundtrack appropriate to the era, very attractive cast in their prime - what's not to like? Just enough sex and violence to make it interesting, and relevant. Nah, couldn't happen in the Age of CGI. I, too, think this is one of Robert Towne's best films and way underrated.

that's exactly how i feel about it. it represents 1988 so well.

just saw that the bluray is out now. i hoe there are some extras and commentary

seriously, i think this is probably the best these three ever looked. this film really was perfect timing for catching the three leads (as well as raul julia) at the exact moment when they were at the top of their game. (well done, towne!)

also am i the only one who wants to eat at joanne's restaurant??? such a cool set; too bad it didnt really exist.

one more thing. do you think the song tequila sunrise was MEANT to be in the soundtrack, but they couldnt get permission?

The shooting just made it also.

Shot during a golden age of Warner Bros movies.

Me too; and I love seeing all three of them in the same film.
