This movie is a gem, pure and simple!

I love 80’s movies with a passion yet was somehow not aware this flick existed until 2006.

Why this isn’t commonly ranked among the great 80’s buddy comedies is a mystery for the ages.

It’s err... far from a perfect film... but the throwaway gags alone make it funnier than most stuff from that era. I defy anyone to not laugh at least once during this movie.

Things are more moderner than before... San Dimas High School football rules!

Also, for those who do not know, a new DVD is coming out in March from MGM.

Great review! It really is a shame, the under-appreciation of this movie, relative to how immortalized some other junk of the era became. Luckily, we people of the future know greatness when we see it :) Haha, or at least know a good 80's buddy flick that never got its due.

I actually saw Tapeheads back in 88 at the theater and I had the entire theater all to myself. Looking back, I'll bet that projectionist was pissed. I was such a little ditz back then that most of the subversive humor went right over my head. I wanted to see it mainly because I loved John Cusack (and still do). I even had a Tapeheads movie poster on my wall. I could kick myself for not keeping it. Caught it again on IFC the other night and laughed out loud; I got the jokes this time. And Don Cornelius was awesome. I'll have to see it he did any more acting.

You left out another big reason is is so great -- The Swanky Modes!!!!! What incredible music throughout the film!

I actually found this movie in a "Most Underrated 80's Movies" list.

Such an underrated flick. One of John Cusack's funniest and best performances.

It certainly an obscure film, maybe shown for the first time on the BBC recently.

Who would had thought that the leads will still be big stars about a quater of century later and one of them being an oscar winner.

Its that man again!!

I saw Tapeheads on some cable channel in the early nineties, when I was a teen, and it made a huge impression. For years and years, I wanted to see the Baby Doll shoot and Blender Children funeral video again. Lo and behold, a few days ago, I found the DVD in a bargain bin. Just watched it, for the first time in almost twenty years, and it's still a work of eccentric comic genius. I'd forgotten all about the waffle house commercial (and end titles), the incompetent agents, the bizarre sex tape, etc. The Ted Nugent and "Weird Al" cameos were fun, too. And, obvisouly, Cusack and Robbins have excellent chemistry.
