Border Between Fiction and Reality

In the various plot summaries I've read about this film, it has said that Barry Champlain's character was BASED on a real talk radio host who was murdered and another said that he was fictional and just drawn from an array of night and shock radio hosts. Could anyone tell me which is accurate? Thanks.

it was inspired by a talk radio host in Denver who was murdered in 1984, but that's about it. Everything about Barry Champlain as a character is fictional.

Alan Berg was the talk show host killed in Denver.

Yeah, Barry is definitely a composite of several different personalities. Alan Berg is the most frequently cited, and the Howard Stern comparison is obvious, but the trivia section also mentions Tom Leykis. It seems likely that Bogosian also drew on some others while writing the play, but I have no information on that as yet.
