voice actors

Some of them just weren't very good actors; they sounded way too fake. And I don't know why anyone thought it was a good idea to use the same actors as different callers! I found that very distracting, to hear the same voice as a different person, especially with people such as Earl Hindman and Park Overall, who have very distinct voices. It really detracted from what they were saying, and if you're taken out of what people in this movie are saying, you're out of the movie, because that's all it is, is people talking. If they'd used some better voice actors, and more of them, the movie could have been much stronger.

Talk Radio is on cable as I speak and that's something I've noticed from the first time I've seen this film -- that some actors were used two and three times. The woman who confronts Barry at the basketball game is one of them as well. I mean, they couldn't have gotten another half-dozen voice actors to take on some bit parts? It's not like there's a shortage of them around.

I wasn't inclined to agree with you that the actors weren't very strong, but the black guy didn't sound very black, and the actors who did play 2-3 parts weren't strong enough to take on different personas, so ... you're definitely right there.

Great point. The callers just did not feel realistic to me. Way too cartoonish. I remember thinking this when I originally saw it upon release and its even more glaring now imo.

I was lucky enough to see the stage production at the Public Theater in New York. One set, Barry's console in the foreground, Stu's office in back next to an entrance/exit. Of course, you didn't see any of the "callers" until the curtain call. I think it was three women and four men who were backstage with microphones. They came out to take a bow.

The callers in the movie sound exactly like the real life callers that used to call Alan Berg, as hard as that may seem. There's a youtube video from 83 and the callers sound just like in this movie http://youtu.be/TkG2mQin-68?t=1s
