Howard Stern
I have not seen it yet but was wondering if it is somewhat based on Howard Stern.

share. The screenplay was almost entirely based on Bogosian's original play and some biographical information about Alan Berg, a talk show host in Denver who was murdered in 1984 by white supremacists.

I agree about the uncanny similarity! Obviously this movie/play was written well before Stern was a blip on the national scene (as stated in Bogosian's book). But it is odd who closely the two personalities resemble one another.
I wonder if Stern has seen this, and I wonder what his thoughts on the movie are.
National scene? He didn't need to be on the national scene. By 1984 he was simply already had a leading radio program in the media capital of the USA NYC. Maybe there was some influence in the book and the movie.

Hoo Hoo Robin, I invented the year 1984. Tell'em Fred.
shareHead back to Dopey and Aintfunny. Theyre the "originals". Speaking of thier "creativity" hows that film festival going?
Oliver Stone sat in Howard studio and watched the show for two days right before filming started on Talk Radio.
Fanboys just make me laugh at thier sad pitifulness
In response to to pcf 9909, hey dumbass, there is no film festival, so whatever the hell you're talking about check your facts before you open your mouth. And, secondly your hero Howie sold away all his fame, so he's done, some "Revolution". But, maybe you got your "film festival" confused with the comedy tour that when in NJ broke ticket selling records that haven't been that high since Jay Leno was there in the 80's, so check the books you douche. I don't remember your hero Howie being in the news lately. O&A, have a better platform and more listeners by the numbers. O&A in no way talk about the same things as Howard, all you have to do is listen. YOU SUCK AND SO DOES HOO HOO!!!
By the way, nice spelling retard.
Opie and Anthony on XM Satellite Radio
SPREAD THE VIRUS!!!!
OA Party Rock
shareOpie and Anthony kick Hoo-Hoo's boring behind.
Just thought I'd throw that in.
Also, Stern stole all of his early material from Steve Dahl in Chicago (who is now irrelevant and boring as well).
Also, as a former Stern listener and current O and A listener, I do not see ANY similarity between the two shows.
Anyway, the movie itself is very dated. It's well made, but you can tell it was made 20 years ago. Nice smoking in the studio!
Just wondering how you and your douche "army" with thier two unemplyed generals.
Shove your "Hoo Hoo somewhere" your head usually is.

On March 17, 1988, on his show, Stern claimed that Oliver Stone's people had contacted his agent at some time in the past about a role as a "disc jockey" in a movie.

I think Eric Nagle was fantastic in this film
"Only the Simian can have the divine spark!"
I used to listen to Stern years ago and I seem to remember him trying to take some credit for the character but mostly for the Robin Williams "Good Morning,Vietnam".
shareYou can look at the cover and tell it is based on Stern.
shareyes, of course it is, anyone with ears can hear Howard in this movie.
but whatever, its a great movie.
Yes, because Eric Bogosian, author of the play the movie is based on, had his genes changed to match those of Stern!
Stunning! What devotion to the art!
lol. Actually, his parents had genetic modifications done while he was still in the womb. So the devotion goes all the way back to his parents.
shareI think it was inspired by Alan Berg, a radio talk show host who was shot to death in 1984.
shareIn some of the flashback sequences, Champlain is seen with a Stern-like hairdo, which I'm sure was intentional, though I've read that Champlain is primarily a composite of Alan Berg and Tom Leykis. I don't think the character seems all that much like Stern, beyond being a sort of shock jock; Stern is more unabashedly an entertainer, whereas this guy had a certain serious edge.
shareI heard it was based on Lyle Chipperson.
shareIt's been proven that it was based on Lyle.
