Maybe I am just sinister...

I saw this movie at the theatre in 1988 I was sixteen at the time. When it came on vhs I got a copy and watched it repeatedly. I just rented it and watched it once again (I am now 38) and I still feel the same way about it. I think it is a fantastic film with a very tagic central character. However, I found myself laughing hysterically at it same as I did back in 1988. Barry cutting down his listeners and darn near anyone who called the show. The one that really made me laugh was the old lady that called in and said she had been listening to the show for 5 years and thought it was wonderful. Barry found a way to turn the whole conversation of her complimenting him and the show on its ear and started making a point at how stupid she was and she listened to feel superior to the other losers who call the show. He said that she had sawdust between her ears instead of brains and if he sounded half as stupid as her he would be too embarassed to open his mouth. at the end the caller is crying and says in a tearful voice "I'm hanging up..." and then barry cuts her off and says "Good and don't call back" I thought that scene was priceless and very very funny. Another funny one was a black guy called in to say how much he likes jews. and barry calls him an uncle tom and says he was trying to kiss the master's butt. absolutely priceless

I just watched this movie tonight and it was a lot more engaging than I thought it would be. I know it's ficton, but I was surprised at the various raunchy topics discussed on a terrestrial radio station, in the bible-belt American south, back in 1988. It seems that things were becoming more conservative during that time, especially in that region where society has always been conservative. With the way Bogosian's character provoked his listeners, it's no wonder that he got gunned down. But this is an Oliver Stone movie. Most of his movies make a statement about society and social issues. And Talk Radio is one of them.

First-time viewing it three years later as video, I was just as shocked as everyone else here is.

Sarah Silverman Is Magic

Amanda Bynes is hot, Lindsay Lohan is not

This movie holds up insanely well, I watched it on cable all the time and it's always compelling, a really good late night movie when you can't sleep and it kind of works as the coffee.

I think it's one of Stone's most focused and sharp efforts, it also has a great lead performance and you are so right that's it very funny all the way throughout and always kind of strange.

Absolutely hilarious scene. When she said "I'm hangin' up", I couldn't help but laugh. It was just the way she said it. I suppose I shouldn't laugh at someone being crushed like that, but again, I couldn't help it. Very memorable scene.
