Seems like people miss the point of this movie

It’a a bit of a modern It’s a Wonderful Life. At the beginning when he is nervous about getting married, he asked his friend if he will be happy. His friend says “you’ll be happy, you just won’t know it.” Jake acknowledge is that his friend was completely right. Don’t forget that the entire movie is supposed to be his book, and Jake is narrating it. So he only focuses on how miserable he felt and all the negative things in his life. We only see the fights and arguments and things that frustrate him. So his wife and life come off as horrible.

But in the iconic scene when he is waiting to find out how the emergency C-section goes, we don’t see any of that. We see the joy he didn’t focus on. We see after the fights when they quickly made up. We see him embracing his impending fatherhood. It’s only when he thinks he’s lost it all forever that he truly appreciates what he had.
