Loved This Movie, Except For....

I've seen this movie a few times. Really like it a lot. Very funny and sweet. One thing that always bothered me though; (SPOILER). At the end when Jake is waiting to hear the news about the baby while in the waiting room the nurse calls him in. Clearly it seems that he thinks the baby didn't make it. That's the way it seems. While this makes for good drama it's a bit unrealistic. The man is distraught over the possibility of losing his wife and baby. You'd think they'd tell him and the family immediately that if they were both ok. Kristy tells Jake "I didn't want anyone else to tell you". Ok, I can understand this, and maybe she didn't want to spoil the surprise that the kid was a boy, however I'd think she'd be OK with telling him the kid was alive instead of making this a surprise.

Hey there,

yes, that's my point though. While it makes good drama and you, the viewer are very relieved to know they are alive and well I felt it was misleading and sort of a "cheap shot". Ya know? Still a good movie and defintitely made me cry, but I think they could have done without that. ; )

When he walks into the room, doesn't Kristi tell him she wanted to tell him herself? I thought this entire part of the movie was very moving and effective.

Are you people listening to the original poster. Yes it works well within the context of the drama but it is also insulting to the audience to expect them to believe that a nurse wouldn't tell a man who thinks his baby died during birth that the baby is alive.

Kristi didn't want them to tell him, yes that's true but that is also unlikely. The ending probably would've had to be completely rewritten to fix that odd moment. But as it is the ending is still effective for the purposes of the movie.
