shareThe song is "This Woman's Work" by Kate Bush.
It's a beautiful song, very sad. I think I'll have it at my funeral :)
shareI agree, that is one of the Most beautiful songs i have ever heard. It ranks up there with "You made me the thief of your Heart" by sinead oconnor used in "In the name of the Father". Love it when good music is used rightly to enhance the scene it is appearing in in a film.
And...those were my TWO CENTS proudly presented...
That scene and that song are what made me grow so attached to this movie. That is my favorite scene in film. It was the first time I cried at a movie.
sharefor me, it's the most moving piece of music ever!
i bought the soundtrack of this movie many years ago, just for this song.
"...and that's the truth, Ruth" - Mister Senor Love Daddy (Do the Right Thing)
It is a beautiful song. I've become a fan of Kate Bush as of late and it's one of my favorites of her. It was actually written by Kate just for this specific scene of the movie.
My name is German Bold Italic, I am a typeface.....
moving, very moving.
shareyes that song was also featured in Alias, i think before jennifer garners
bf in the show was killed.

I LOVED this song. It made me cry a lot when I was pregnant with my daughter. It was even part of the CD my husband played for me during her birth. It helped to focus me :)
sharesame here. We used a couple of songs from the soundtrack during my daughter's delivery.
shareIt's also being used to advertise the season premiere for the 2007-2008 season of "CSI".
shareTo this day, I think that scene is one of the most powerful scenes in movie history. From a John Hughes film. Using Kate Bush's song was one of the wisest choices anyone could have made for that movie.
I can't even think about the scene without getting choked up a bit.
My wife miscarried the only child she was pregnant with while we were married. I had always been hoping that I wouldn't run across thatt movie and in particular that scene again. But one day some time ago it happened. We watched that scene and cried for an hour. It was really the first good cry we had over losing our son since the whole thing happened.
7th Heaven just recently used this song after the birth of Sandy and Martin's baby. They used it beautifully. I think this song is so touching...
sharei thought re-using this song was a slap in the face to john Hughes, and another example of how derivative and unoriginal 7th Heaven can be! This show freaked me out recently when they spent about 2 minutes showing Ruthie dance suggestively in her room only to be caught by her father who discovers she's becoming a sexual being. I found it creepy.
shareHowever , i love the song and i just downloaded it, Kate Bush is beautiful and nuts, i think!

I had first heard this song sung by Maxwell in the film Love and Basketball. I have listened to Kate's version but I prefer Maxwell's. Brilliant song.
Maxwell's version??? Eeek! I guess I'm usually biased toward a song I really like when I hear it the first time, even if it's not by the original artist. But any other version of this song will never do it justice. Especially the fact that Maxwell is a GUY. Kate Bush's version is haunting and dramatic and one of the most effective uses of music in a movie I've ever heard. Maxwell, trying to hit those notes, makes me wonder why permission was ever granted for him to remake the song. Not to criticize your choice, but I just felt compelled to write and ask WHYYYY? ;-)

Are you serious?? How can you say that??? Maxwell's version is just as good as Kate's, if not better, and he DOES hit all the high notes brilliantly. I can't possibly be the only one who thinks this!!! And the fact that Maxwell is a guy just show's what a great singer he is.
Here are two links to the videos. Listen to them again (not judging on the videos because they're are both crap but on the singing).
Maxwell: http://www.videocodezone.com/videos/m/maxwell/this_womans_work.html
Kate: http://mp.aol.com/video.index.adp?mode=2&pmmsid=1426066
They both have beautiful voices but I'm leaning towards Maxwell.

I stumbled across this post while looking something up on the SHAB site. I've always been a fan of the movie and especially the soundtrack. I have never heard of "Maxwell" so I clicked the link and listened to his version of "Woman's Work". I had to click the x. It was horrible. Does he always sound like that when he sings? Perhaps he had a really bad cold the day he recorded that. Kate Bush has an amazing voice. I've seen her in concert and it's even more chilling live.
"Love many...
Trust few...
Do wrong to none" *Shakespeare* & *Yau-Man*
You never would have heard Kate singing this live. She hasn't toured since 1979, and has only sung one-off songs live a few times since then on TV appearances, and none of those songs were "This Woman's Work." I'm glad you like it, but don't mislead people. Sorry, but I've been a fan since 1980 and helped build the website gaffa.org (which I think is down now), so I would know.
Otherwise, I agree with Kate having an amazing voice, that this is an amazing song and well-used in the film. While I do like Maxwell's version, it pales in comparison to the original.
I LIKE THEM BOTH EQUALLY.I GUESS IT REALLY DEPENDS ON THE SITUATION THAT IS GOING ON WHENEVER YOU HEAR IT. ANYONE ELSE AGREE???
sharethis is the moment that i cry like a baby, no pun intended. also as i was 8 when this film came out it may be the first time i ever heard kate bush, and now i'm a massive fan
