I think that pretty much almost ruined the movie. I got the feeling through the whole movie that he didnt really like her or love her. Even in the end (spoiler?) when he realizes he was "loved more than he loved", etc..I still didnt get that he was in love with his wife. I chalk that up to the actors not having chemistry.
Yeah, the movie's actually depressing for a young single guy, b/c he seems trapped the entire time. You get the feeling he loves her during the troubled delivery, but otherwise, his life seems like a big negative.
Ughhhh...Of course he loved her. Does he like/ cleave to the transition to marriage easily? No. As the film describes it, through its corny and ugly barbecue scences with REAL people and their impotent club excursions, there is an adjustment to be made. Does he, in the end and at the birth, INTERNALIZE THE TRUTH OF HIS LOVE FOR HIS WIFE---yes. Of course. Sometimes it takes a real event to show us the truth of how we feel.
Amen to that. Many people, men especially, have to grow into a marriage. He had a lot of growing up to do, and there are many distasteful scenes in the movie which show his personality in development from a callow self-centered youth to someone who has learned to appreciate all he has taken for granted. He finally realizes that he has gained far more than he imagined he lost. Unfortunately it takes a crisis to bring that home to him.
Strongly disagree. I think they have great chemistry and their relationship mirrors the actual growing pains that young married couples go through as they go through the day to day experiences of life.
