When Sam Elliot is hanging on the plane flying near the Statue of Liberty my jaw dropped..lol I was like WTF was that. it was so unbelievable, yet so entertaining cause I laughed so hard that I nearly made lemonaide in my pants.

It looked silly, but it was kinda creepy when the plane swerved towards the Twin Towers...

Just caught the flick on HBO. That scene was a bit creepy in retrospect.
That being said, between the bluescreen work, the fact that another airport was used to stand in for LaGuardia Airport & the fact that by the time the nose of the plane was rising, the posrche was still in 3rd gear, you just have to let it all go.
I noticed all of the action scenes in this movie were done pretty tongue in cheek. Sam Elliot's character appears to be superhuman by the end of the movie. I thought the roller coaster scene was pretty funny too.
shareYeah, the movie played it pretty straight except for the action scenes, which were totally insane. Think about the first major shootout, when the drug kingpin's henchman electrocutes the snitch, then gets down to the street and pops two submachine guns off rails on his arms, then Sam Elliott swings down to the street on a drainpipe, and he and Peter Weller jump on a motorcycle and proceed to chase down and shoot at the suspect.
If you've seen any of James Glickenhaus's other movies, though, (like The Soldier, which is actually the movie that Sam Elliott's watching while we first see him sleeping in the theater) you know that his action sequences tend to be pretty over the top.
On a completely different topic, I thought it was funny that--just like in Road House--Sam Elliott was playing opposite a character named "Dalton."
lol That's the same reason I came to this board. To see if anyone mentioned this wacky *beep* scene. Great stuff!

shareThe scene was pretty badtastic and maximum cornball. I love how absolutely inconsistent it was. The plane takes off, he shoots the landing gear, suddenly they're like thousands of feet above the NY skyline at the WTC, then he shoots the engine, suddenly they're at the statue of liberty, he chucks a grenade into the hull, then the plane is suddenly like 20ft from the water, he drops off into the water and the plane somehow did a u-turn right back to the landing strip, long enough for the slow-fused grenade to wait until they landed, then KABOOM!
Oh, and then Sam is teleported to like 15 feet from the shore...or he's a really REALLY fast swimmer.
Brilliant.
Did anyone else notice the blatant stuntman driving the car as Sam was getting onto the landing gear? LOL!!!!
I just caught the end of this movie on HBO recently. So he basically murdered the pilots?

I was thinking the same thing. The movie is very gritty up until the very end. The ending action sequence does not fit at all. I wonder if we can get some kind of interview or commentary with the director explaining that.

They arrived after boarding. How did they even know which plane was the right one?
The plane is landing when Elliott jumps off, but in the end the plane is pointed toward the water rather than away.
The whole plane didn't blow up, so it's possible everyone survived. They just don't say.

shareVery funny. I got quite the laugh out of that and the scene where the one henchmen pulls knives and guns out of his sleeves. This movie manages to be dead serious (and gritty) at times, but cartoony at others. You could call that inconsistent, but it sure entertained me.
