Who was Abby? *spoilers*

*spoilers*

In the visions, who was Abby supposed to be the reincarnation of? Was it the Virgin Mary (which I thought) or Mary Magdalen (which my friend thinks).

What do you guys think??

There are not many clues in the film as to Abby's identity which indicate she was close to the Christus character. She carried an amphora of water. She may have been a Jewish woman who had displayed sympathy and mercy, and either gave or wanted to give Christ water. The Roman yells at her in a mocking way: "Will you die for him!"

It's not clear whether Abby in that lifetime was a Follower. Re: reincarnation and
Christianity. In ancient unorthodox esoteric forms of Christianity reincarnation was accepted.

She is actually the reborn woman some identify as Seraphia, the woman who offered Christ water during the Crucifixion but was turned away by Cartaphilus.

But then why does he yell at her "Will you die for him?!" in the vision? Is he saying (in that context) that if she tries to bring him water, she will be killed?

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

This is what it means. You must know that water was very valuable that time. It not like today where the clean water comes out of the crane.

I thought that being asked "will you die for him?" meant asking her would she willingly die to give her child life. I thought it was touching.

It did mean that, in reference to the ending of the film. But the question had a *double* meaning, as Abby is a reincarnation of a woman who was with Christ.

I really appreciate it. It confused me quite a bit. I do wish they'd explained more thoroughly who Abby was in the film, as even though I know some of the Bible...I don't know it all. And a film like this one shouldn't assume anyone does really.
