Demi Moore's Performance
I wondering if I just didn't like Demi Moore's acting performance, or I just found the character she played grating my nerves because of her self-absorbed hysterics all through this film.
Any thoughts?

I understood her hysterics, but she got on my nerves before she learned of her fate. She was almost 100% baby obsessed, and that was annoying. She tried to KILL HERSELF just because she had a couple miscarriages??! Sure its traumatic, but you are young, beautiful, have a great home and a loving, successful husband.

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

Exactly, her character was totally self -absorbed and bordering on narcissistic. I would be very concerned if the fate of the world as I know it was dependent on this person's actions!

It was the eighties, this was very typical YUPPIE behavior/characterization. It showed a slightly older version of some of the characters she played in Brat Pack movies.

I thought she did a great job in this film and had no problems with her acting performance at all.

I guess it's just a matter of taste. Although ,to be fair, she was fantastic in "G.I. Jane". So it might just be that I just did not like the protagonist she played in the movie "The Seventh Sign".

Sorry but I was not a fan of "G.I. Jane" Since I use to work with SEALS in the Navy and my father is a former SEAL in Vietnam. I felt it was very disrespectful for them to create a movie like that because it more than likely created problems in the Navy.
I read that the Navy would not allow them to film on any Naval instalation or Navy equipment either. That was a very good stand the Navy did and I approve of that too.

That is just the sort of mentality that Demi Moore's character had to face in the movie "G.I. Jane" and the "tough chick" reaction to that mentality that made the movie so much fun to watch. Could it happen in real life? Probably unlikely, but it is HOLLYWOOD!

Yes I know that it is Hollywood and the Navy would not permit a woman to become a SEAL in the Navy due to when they are out on a mission and if something happens the female might be the weakest link on the team I hate to say it.
Plus, a woman cannot go without cleaning for more than so many days out in the field because it would be very unsanitary for them to do that.

I'm not in the service, although I wish I had served, so I really am no position to say women shouldn't serve. My gut tells me that it would be a liability. I think it's horrendous that women veterans are coming back from service with missing limbs. History will probably side with you and women will eventually be banned from active combat once the toll of a generation of daughters come back from service with their lives in ruins.
BTW, I seriously doubt the very wealthy actress Demi Moore would allow her young daughter to serve in Iraq or Afghanistan. So, while I respect Demi Moore's performance in the "G.I. Jane" film, I am fully aware that it is ,in fact, a Hollywood fantasy.

I believe a woman should serve in the service but not on the front lines I hate to say of combat. Yes it is sad that a lot of women are going through some hard time with both wars in Iraq and Afghanistan but that is a part of their job that they signed up for though. I do not like to see anyone lose a arm or leg to be honest with you.
Yes "G.I. Jane was Hollywood fantasy and I am glad that is it.

Thank you. Apparently the previous poster has no problem with our male service members coming back with missing limbs, parts of their brains or castrated. Yes, that's the part the news reports leave out... many of the men coming back with missing lower limbs are missing much more.

Demi Moore should go back to these type of movies. It seems to me that actors and actresses do well with the horror genre since most of these movies don't cast established actors/actresses in the leads but use established talent in supporting roles to give these movies some credibility. It would be a good career move for Demi Moore at this point and then she could re-build her career.
