Explain please (spoilers)

I watched this movie yesterday on cinemax. I did'nt get to watch it from the beginning so i may not know as much. Was this based on a true story because when he comes out of the voodoo dungeon at the end, it gives an explanation of the zombie drug and how it is used. And after Lucien dies, some of the villagers saw the man blow the zombie dust into Bill Pullmans eyes. Why did they all of a sudden think he was a zombie when he was still alive. And what political problems were the people of Haiti having. And when he goes down from the zombie dust, does he see what is happening to him, or is that a camera trick.

I know these are probably simple questions. But as I said at the beginning, I did'nt get to watch this from the beginning.

It's not a true story, the government would be all over it if it was.

Uhm it was a true story and the government was all over it. Just recently the United States government assisted in the forcible removing of the Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, whose people had elected him with 80% of the vote.

The movie itself is based on actual events that led to the making of the anesthesia that is used in hospitals tody. No the guy was not toutured, turned into a zombie, or anything else bad that happened except maybe having the gun to his head as he was forced to leave the country. But as I said before it is based on true events.
