Any hidden criticism or purposes in the scene...
Why is it that the scene where their having sex focuses to much on her face and having to many creepy face emotions?
I'm pretty sure there is a deeper meaning, or a criticism?

Um, did you want the camera focused on the genitals? That's a different kind of a movie.
shareHarkadenn,
You mean in contrast to other films where it pans to fingertips trailing over hands, or kissing on shoulders, and flickering candle lights ohh look at the romantic mood aww, insert bow chicka wow wow fore play - these people are so meant to be together for life, they fit together like a puzzle and complete eachother camera shots.
I think the reason for the close ups is to highlight the fact that
1- it's international lovers: She's Haitian and he's the American guy.
2- I think it's also to show like you said those aren't her normal facial expressions. So that leads to ask the questions.
a. Is she being riden by a Loa herself (is she a pawn)?
b- which Loa is riding her--
1a- Is it a Loa from one of the ceremonies that's just random?
1b- Is it a Loa that his nemisis sent to seduce her and intentionally lower his gaurd to make him weaker so that he could attack Dennis.

i love the way this movie places equal emphasis on the different states of consciousness. death, dreams, drugs, trance and mental illness are all just different realities. this scene illustrates that sex is just one of those many realities that make up our everyday lives.
