Just rented the DVD. I was very surprised it was made in 1988. Just a great scary film. The Scarecrows are the BEST I have ever seen in a movie and the DVD looked great on the Blur Ray Player. Good from start to finish. I do not know any of the actors in the film but all in all great job!
It was a bit of a disappointment for me. Granted, the score was very creepy, and yes, the scarecrows themselves were very good, but there was no explaination about what happened to the 3 men that originally lived on the farm, or to why they were turned into scarecrows.
I was also disappointed in the 'mix'. Don't you find it frustrating when the disc starts up and its 5.1, then the film starts and it resorts back to its original soundtrack?
I have to disagree with you about the issue of them not explaining the 3 men. My problem with modern horror is the fact that they try to explain every little detail of the backstory of the supernatural creature/ghost/monster etc. Usually some jerk giving a monologue in a few paragraphs that wraps up all the details in a little box with a ribbon tied neatly around it.
In horror movies it's the questions that you can't answer that provoke you to think about the film and the possibilities. The less you know about a mysterious evil being the better.
