Great movie

I really enjoyed this one, it didn't get great reviews but I thought it was really good. It was a big hit at the time but it's a shame that it's somewhat less remembered now, probably because it came out just before the Disney Renaissance era and was overshadowed.

Yeah, "Oliver" has become a fairly obscure Disney entry, to the point where tbh I didn't even know it EXISTED until 2008 (2 DECADES after its premiere!)

It's interesting that this film has some parallels, characterwise at least, to both "Lady and the Tramp" and "The Rescuers" (those two films are, incidentally, my 2 favorites of the pre-90's Disney flicks), what with Jenny obviously being Penny's (hypothetically even in universe) long lost cousin/twin/whatever and Dodger, Tito, Francis, etc. looking like Tramp and Pedro and Bull (the chihuahua and bulldog at the pound) in that film. (And for extra measure, Trusty, Jock and Peg from "L&T" also cameo during "Why Should I Worry"?)

Speaking of that song, Billy Joel really (inevitably) rocked it (though I digress he's definitely not the best voice actor, despite his epic singing skills)...

Bottom line: Upon discovering this for the first time, I really came to like it for a while. My only (relatively minor) gripe is that the film looked "too 80's", and regrettably that's not even counting the Twin Towers' cameo at the beginning... But still, I can look back and remember how simple and entertaining this film was for a while in my life...
