The trailers are so dishonest.

I've noticed that in all the trailers for this movie, they lie and say that Oliver is the primary victim of Sykes.

In the first theatrical trailer, they call Sykes "the evil villain who is out to destroy Oliver."
In the the re-release trailer, a juxtaposition of images implies that Oliver gets kidnapped by Sykes, when Jenny says "they've kidnapped Oliver" is followed by a shot of Oliver being threatened by DeSoto and being patted by Sykes.
In the home video trailer, the narrator says "when little Oliver gets into big trouble, it's up to the Dodger and his gang to save the day."
For three times in a row, the marketing of this film kept implying that Oliver was a cat in distress when he's not much of a victim in the movie when it's only Fagin and Jenny are the ones who are in real danger from Sykes. After three trailers in a row, the marketeers should have known better that people had seen the film and knew that everything they say in the trailers are big fat lies.

I haven't seen a trailer for this film since I was about six, but I'll take your word for it and just remind you that they still do that now, annoying as it can be.

I do recall seeing a trailer stating that New Moon was "the best movie of the year." LIES!

I guess they were just emphasizing Oliver since he's the main character.

I know this is off-topic, but I liked the 1988 trailer the best. Amazing that this film originally came out the same day as Mickey Mouses' 60th birthday.

I also remember in the L.A. Times that Charles Solomon, a critic for that newspaper, said that Disney planned a special 60th year anniversary commemorative logo. I wouldn't be surprised if it was used to precede this film during its original release.
