How did they do this...?

Followimg the shootout and fight at the stockyard, the inept henchman falls into a vat of goo, and his hand slides down.

It seems to be a parody of Batman.

But Batman was released in 1989, and the Naked Gun was released in 1988.

How did they manage that?

Probably a coincidence... Or Tim Burton stole it for Batman. ;-)

reply

Yeah. Did you ever think Burton stole it from Naked Gun?

I noticed the similarities but never thought that. Considering the differences in production time... Batman was much more elaborate, I think it is a coincidence. I'd almost venture to say Burton hadn't seen Naked Gun.

reply

Why not?? It was a big hit.

reply

Because he was too busy working on a blockbuster. :-) Plus, the scene in Batman had probably been written months before the release of Naked Gun. I was being facetious when I suggested Burton stole it.

reply

But he could have. It is possible.

Hmmm... I just realized what you guys said that Batman came out after Naked Gun! I Always thought it was a parody of Batman too!

However, The Zuckers and Abraham guys did like to make satire of the most recent films too. That part in Scary Movie 5 where they are ripping on Tom Cruise on Oprah was a last minute edit filmed just days before the release.

Maybe they got a sneak peak at some dailies of Batman? Or was there a trailer that showed Joker falling into that acid in the Batman trailer?

I think it's too coincidental that even a clown face is on the hot dog containers to not be making fun of Batman. They must have seen it somehow.

Edit: Yeah I know, only one worked on that film, but the three of them did it before too.

Don't know. Naked Gun came out December 2, 1988. Wiki says Batman's first trailer showed during Christmas. So it seems like the trailer was not seen before Naked Gun's release.

"Pretentious" is a three-syllable word for any thought too big for little minds.
