Awesome movie...but too much winking
This is a great piece of filmmaking.
Everything is perfect, I love it from start to finish, I can find no fault to it.
Except for the amount of winking Gene Hackman produces in it. I bet they had other takes of him not winking for each one of those shots, was the editor sleeping or was he a winking maniac?
They should have noticed that it is overly done.
It's cool and interesting the first time he does it. By the third time, it feels like he needs a better shtick.
It's like the use of "fuck", you say it once, it can be powerful.
You say fuck this and fuck that, it completely loses its effect.
