why did the Klan not wear full robes in the film?

and only pillow cases over their heads?

Did that mississippi klavern really just wear the pillow cases in real life because they were a more rogue militant type branch? or did the director decide to change it to just pillow cases?

I've always wondered.

That's a good question, considering their extremely cowardly acts of burning churches, homes, and attacking attendees of black churches. Maybe they only wore them at official functions and their regular attire during their random acts of cruelty.

Formal gatherings - with the oath-taking, ceremonial cross burning, and speechifying - demanded the full length sheets, er, robes. The more physically arduous terror duty required only business casual.

And of course, all of the events shown in the movie happened on casual Friday, to boot.

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.
