* The stepfather stuck around for longer. He was a better adversary/bad guy than the cop

* The cop was NOT in on it. That whole element of the movie didn't work

* It had a complete different ending. The ending was beyond ludicrous. But if the cop wasn't in on it, then by definition it would have ended way differently

* Had full frontal nudity of Meg Tilly. Personally, I think she's hotter than Jennifer.

.... and that's one big IF. As is, this movie is more or less terrible. But deep down, it had potential.

The cop was sort of necessary though for the whole plot to work. He could control the evidence at the crime scene, and convince the DA not to press charges against Rob Lowe. It just seems a little messy to have that newspaper photo of them together from the previous season (or whenever it was).
