Connie Russo and the Other Mafia Wives

A program about MTTM in the HISTORY CHANNEL said that Angela's desire to get away from the Mob is not something that happens often in real life, but that instead Mafia wives are perfectly happy to be a part of that world.
Is that true? My only point of reference is GOODFELLAS, where it's plain obvious that Karen Hill and the other Mafia wives really enjoy the perks of life in crime.
And what's with the open mention of the word MAFIA in those two movies and similar others like CASINO? I am old enough to remember the ridicule that Francis Ford Coppola received when he cravenly agreed not to mention the Mafia in THE GODFATHER.

the mafia wives are great in this movie!

You know, I'd agree with the opinion that Mafia wives are pretty happy. They have security, a strong family connection around them, plenty of money, they don't have to work. Especially when those women have grown up around the Mafia, the whole culture itself, I guess that's what they feel comfortable and natural with.

Did Coppola really receive ridicule for not mentioning the Mafia explicitly in The Godfather? Wow.

In a way the wives live like royalty, literally, with all the ups and downs of royalty (the Ups being the luxury, not having to work, have their heart's desire in clothes & jewelry, having a loving & supportive & tight knit court always at your side, lavish parties, and the Downs being cheating husbands, marriages often used for the merging of two kingdoms/mafia familes, constant uncertainty, crime & blood on their name, husbands always in some territory wars with some other mafia family/kingdom, being bored, constantly waiting around, sexism)

a Mafia wife is only happy, as long as her husband is in good standing with #1.
Life in a Mafia family is not as peachy as outsiders think.
