Scrapped idea for a Maniac Cop 4.

To anyone who hasn't been to Retroslashers.net...I suggest that you go there.

I read on there that Lustig and Cohen were planning a fourth Maniac Cop in which a rookie cop is assigned Cordell's old badge number, however it was scrapped for some particular reason. (funding?? can't remember.)

At first, that idea sounded a bit weak, I was sure it could've been more creative, but still have the same concept (possession.) But when I really thought about it...I realized it's probably the best way to bring back Matt Cordell.

If you've seen Maniac Cop 3, you would know that they would have to do something different with part 4. (Spoilers lie ahead.)

Considering the fact that Cordell did lose his arm at the end of 3, and was burnt to a crisp. (even though he was still alive after THAT!) However a one armed Cordell just wouldn't work. He's completely destroyed. Since his body was still almost completely whole at the end of 3, I can't imagine why the characters would finally believe that Cordell is dead, since they witnessed him being burned in part 2, and falling 20 stories down into the top of a bus. Yet he still came back in 3. I turned this message into a rave, so ill get back to my main point and TRY to finish this message quickly.

Of course, they would have to bring in the concept of possession, to give him an entirely new, clean, 2 armed body. So i guess now it doesn't sound that bad, huh? Cohen and Lustig, i now salute your idea of Maniac Cop 4...which has since been scrapped. And another movie used the same idea, so, I'm not sure if they would make the film now. When I think about it, even though it isn't too original(at least it is for the MC series), it's really the only way to make Cordell whole again, and to bring him back.

Even though it is probably totally useless. I'll say it anyways.

In "Maniac Cop 4" they will have scenes in which the "Rookie" faces the conflict of the possession and has fights with himself, until the soul of Cordell consumes the Rookie and becomes Matt Cordell. Haha...perhaps maybe they can feature a scene in which the guy wakes up and looks at himself, and realizes that he is more built then he's ever been, like his body is going through changes (thats kind pushing it a little, reminds me of the scene in spiderman)

Then of course include classis scenes of him seeing a nice, human looking version of Cordell smiling at him, as his reflection! Yes! he's looking in a mirror, seeing Cordell. Then of course have a part where he sees a very evil, grotesque Cordell that we always knew in the films. This would be a very different, very nice addition to the series. It could definitely make up for part 3 (i didn't enjoy it.)

Btw...Maniac Cop 2...Special Edition...please?

alright, my "rant" is done.

See you in the funnies.

Oh yeah, it was pretty weak. In fact I read something about Bill Lustig leaving the production and being replaced by some other director. I wonder why that is. I've really actually never seen a "remake" of a sequel, so I don't think that will happen. They could've made that 4th installment and it would've been awesome and make you forget part 3.

See ya' in the funny papers.

It's been awhile since I've seen these films, but the way I remember it, the story didn't really make sense to progress past part 2, which is where I think it should have ended. Robert Davi proved to Cordell he was set up, he killed most of the people who knifed him, and that neat little bus explosion pretty much would have blown his limbs apart. It seemed like a nice ending to it all.

So Basically they came up with Nightmare On Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge but changed the characters?

On that note no wonder it was scrapped. I am a Maniac Cop fan but its time to accept the franchise is done.
