The end of the film has him blowing a bubble from his gum that said:
"SEE YOU IN MAC AND ME 2".
It's now 26 years later, and we're still waiting?

Obviously you guys must be joking, but MAC AND ME was a huge bomb. Not that there would've been much to explore in a sequel anyway. At least if they ever made an E.T. 2 they could bring back that apparent subplot that got deleted involving his race at war with other aliens.

After the ending credits... Mac being the annoying little egotistical rodent that he is, one can assume he distracted his mom while she drove the space ship home. Unfortunately they would soon crash in full impact towards an asteroid. Killing them instantly. So as for your question.... No. There would be no sequel to Mac and Me

That's actually a fair question.
I mean, Hollywood has a reputation for taking a great movie and making a crappy sequel. How about turning that on its head? How about taking a crappy movie and making a great sequel (or at least a good one).
Don't tell me there isn't potential for greatness - particularly for ironic references to the original.
E.T. wasn't a particularly brilliant film in terms of concept or plot - and yet people loved it.
