2 questions I always had about this flick??

Haven't seen it in probably 20 years but,,

1. Why did they talk in past/future rather than present?

2. Why did the metamorphis grow hard with time?

Thanks.

I plan to ebay this flick,
I remember really liking it.

1. With all the time jumping they were doing it's strange they had any present time at all, heh. When they were explaining each other all those time issues and different time versions of themselves, I guess it was necessary to define those by talking in past/future.

2. It wasn't explained as far as I remember, but I just thought it was a natural consequence of his age. Plus it started the whole shebang - he needed new cells because they weren't regenerating due to his old age, made Metal Men and sent them into the past to capture Gandaharians to produce cells to compensate... OK, I'm dizzy now. Hope it helped.

1. the prophecy (in a thousand years gondahar was destroyed, and all its people massacred...) comes from the deformed, who always avoid the present tense. it is their way of dealing with their predicament as a failed genetic experiment, where each generation is more deformed than the last. only the deformed talk like this.

2. because all things grow hard (brittle) with time. for further explanation, see the tao te ching, a very old book by lao tzu.

1. Wibbly-Wobbly-Timey-Wimey. Also, what the others said.

2. Fact of biology. in humans, our cells are usually only capable of replicating 50 times before they are too degenerated to do so and just die out. This happens because on the ends of the DNA are long strands that have no code, and each time the DNA is duplicated for cell production, a bit of this gets snapped off. Basically, He reached a point of age where none of his cells had the capability of regenerating, meaning he'd die. Fearing death, he acted horribly to ensure his continued existence.

A lovely film. I need to re-watch it.
