He composed the music for MANY of my favorite childhood movies including: this movie, "An American Tail", "Balto", "We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story", and "How the Grinch stole Christmas" (2000).

I agree. I love James Horner, and the score he did for Land Before Time makes me tear up every time. In fact, I think it is the music that helps make the movie as beautiful and poignant as it is.

He is not the composer he used to be really, his music as of late has really been a big pile of "meh"...

I agree. One of Horner's greatest works. I always considered this movie as simply a music video to this soundtrack.

As far as Horner ripping off other artists, I think it's more his was of giving a nod to great works of the past rather than a simple rip off.

For all his tendencies of "borrowing", at least he's able to make something even better out of it.
