did Littlefoot's mother die from sharptooth injuries or the earthquake?

I was always under the impression that she was severely injured in the quake, but somebody on here said that she died from injuries due to fighting sharptooth. It never looked like sharptooth was able to get in that many punches, so I still think it's the former.

He jumped on her back, and took a bite out of her neck. You can see a silhouette of it happening in the background, while Littlefoot and Cera are watching.

I just rewatched that scene and I'm quite surprised that they showed that, even in a shadow.

I found it almost as disturbing as that scene in Oliver Twist where Nancy gets murdered. Those five or so seconds where he's bludgeoning her behind the stone pillar were one of the most disturbing images of my childhood because you can't see what's happening but you KNOW what's happening: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjblvX95Blw

Still though, for a creature of her size that wound was pretty small, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was the earthquake that did her in.

Nah, man, it was definitely the blood loss from the big chunk Sharptooth took out of her back. Notice she didn't die until after the earthquake was over and we never saw her really get knocked around during it, either.

Also, if you noticed, there is a chunk missing from her neck as well. Land Before time was heavily cut by about 10 minutes. Some of those scenes might include extra bits of Sharptooth fighting littlefoot's mother.

It is also rumored that the scene in silhouette was actually in full color at one time.

It doesn't really surprise me. I know when I was little I didn't get it. My mom had to explain it to me.

May of been a combination of both. If I remember right, it was a pretty intense fight and when the scene comes up when she's on the rock, she looked in a pretty painful position like she'd broken a good few things on impact to me.

There is an important but quick image that explains that she died from the injuries of the fight. Right after he takes a bite on her neck, the camera focuses on him chasing Cera and Littlefoot. Littlefoot's mom is out of screen for a few seconds. Then at some point Littlefoot screams for help from his mom. Then, you can see quickly his mom on the ground - you can only see her face that expresses pain and weakness. But not for long, since she hears her baby screaming for her help and she gets her head up towards where she heard his scream and her face then changes to express fear. Then she gets up and goes to fight again.

That image tells clearly that she is already dying at that point, but still gives all the little energy she has left to save her son. I didn't even noticed it when I was young - I only realized it a few years ago, when I was watching the movie with my brother (it was one of our favourite when we were kids) and he said: "Look, she is already dying", I felt overwhelmed!
