The saddest and greatest soundtrack ever!!!

Everytime I hear the music, I tear up. I remember watching it when I was 6 (now 24) and everytime I hear the sharptooth music or great migration, I start to get going!!! :(

does anyone else feel this way?

reply

Me too!

And it's mainly because it reminds me of my childhood between 1988 and the first half of the 90s... Best years i've ever lived :,(

There are scores that can get intensity and excitement built up, but this really evokes a wide range of emotions, much like the film itself. And that's the thing about scores. They are a dime a dozen unless they have great importance to the storytelling itself, and this score is absolutely necessary to the film's ability to tell a story. It's hard for me to listen to it now because in order to do so, you really need to take a lot of time to do it, and it's so special to me that I don't want it to lose its effect by listening to it too much. Easily Horner's greatest and somewhat of an overlooked classic. For me, it's the most powerful score in my collection.

Agreed, it's incredibly good, my favorite soundtrack of all time. I recently bought it online, worth the price!

I hope that it gets re-released. There are a few missing cues, and I hate missing cues. It's from the time they see the river to the tree that gets eaten by other dinos until the shot of the wasteland that prompts Cerra to ask "This is your Great Valley?!"

Also, "Foraging for food" and "Rescue/Discovery of the Great Valley" have cues that were not in the film and cues that were in the film but are mixed in an order on the CD that is not the same order as heard on the film. It's not as bad as some score albums are, but at least give me the missing cues I can't get without buying the dvd, somehow isolating the music without sound effects and trying to splice it with the rest of the CD.

As awesome as that sounds, I doubt they would ever just decide to do that.

Yeah, it would have to be a companion piece to a 30 year anniversary blue ray. Even then, it would probably be isolated score with commentary on the blue ray itself and not a separate disc.

Oh my god, "Whispering Winds" makes me bawl like a baby. Just the name gets me going.

I agree that this score was incredibly beautiful and really touches me, every time. Only this and the score from 'The Wizard of Oz' are enough to make me sob every time...

"Do you want it?" YES, Jareth!

My favorite thing about this movie was the song at the end with the animation during the credits. "If we hold on together" has always brought a feeling of nostalgia back to me. It was beautifully written and sung. Also one of our local hawaiian artists, Keali'i Reichel has done a cover of this song and it is just as beautiful. I encourage you all to listen to it and tell me what you think.

Yes! I was born in 86 and this was "my movie" growing up I loved it. I never realized how awesome and tragic this soundtrack was until I was older. Very emotional, powerful and beautiful all at once. Just thinking about it makes my eyes well up. James Horner (R.I.P) was a freaking genius.
