Does no one even REMEMBER the first movie?!

I just recently came from the message boards for both Walking With Dinosaurs and Disney's Dinosaur, and I came across some very unfavorable comments about this movie:

From the WWD boards:

Talking dinos is going to be a throwback to The Land Before Time minus the singing, oh god I hope there's no singing.

From the Dinosaur message boards:

You expect another Land Before Time, which was bland and lackluster, a kiddified borefest. If your kids can't handle violence rent them that. But if they can handle Jurassic Park but still like Disney, this is it.

Seriously? Did these people only watch the sequels and just assumed that's what the first movie was like?! Because last time I checked, the original LBT movie was dark, more mature, and had absolutely NO SINGING!!! Even today, in my early 20's, I still love the first movie to pieces!

I'm not trying to force my opinion on them or anything, but maybe if these people actually grew up with the first movie, like I did, they'd probably appreciate it more.

Okay, sorry for flipping out there.

What I mean is, I feel like this gets often misunderstood, due to the negative reputation it has with those heinous direct-to-video sequels.

I recently re-watched this for the first time since... probably 1989 and Yeah, it was a lot darker than I remembered! Not as dark as Watership Down or Plague Dogs but still enough to damage anyone who watches it after making it through any of the sequels!

I grew up never even knowing there were any sequels in the first place, so I've never seen any of the movies but the first one and I have always remembered it as one of my all time favorites as a kid. 12 sequels is ridiculous, and so are musicals, so I would never consider even watching them now as an adult to see what other story lines happened after the original.

Yeah I'm okay with some of the sequels as they're entertaining to a point and great for my four year old but clearly these people haven't seen the original masterpiece or they wouldn't be bashing it.

By choice I've never watched any of the sequels. They started popping up several years after the original so you kinda knew they wouldn't be the same. Just like Home Alone 3 and 4. The first Land before time is among the most beautiful animated movies ever. In my book it's right up there with The Lion King.

I agree, I don't understand why this movie is so forgotten about.

It's sad that this film is seemingly overshadowed by it's trainload of sequels.
