The 7.3 rating for this film is criminal.

This is a brilliant film that I personally found to be as important/enjoyable/deep as any mainstream Disney film. Don Bluth should be considered a legend in animation. I mean come on, An American Tail? All Dogs Go to Heaven? The Secret of NIMH? Fantastic movies, great hand drawn animation. Darkness and emotional depth. And that's not just me turning my nostalgia meter up, it's fact. Raise that rating people!

People with no imagination don't appreciate imagination.

A good movie indeed. While I just watched it I was thinking some of the characters could tied in more into the story. We meet Spike in the middle of the movie and has little to do with the rest, other than his a lost kid. But that's why I like all the kids, they're just different kids. It's that you recognize the kids you knew when you were at that age.
It's not the Dark Knight in it's super tight plot and complexity, but very simple and unpredictable.

It's an 8/10 for me

I know this is a super old thread and nobody now will read this, but I felt it necessary to amend my old thoughts on this film. Despite being too short and weirdly cut, this is one of Don Bluth's best. It now competes with An American Tail for my favorite from him and I think it's deserving of all praise it's received.

I watched this a few years ago with my niece and I don't really care for it. The villain Sharptooth was the only great thing about it. Secret of NIMH is better. Also sadly quite a few older films get a lower rating. Especially comedies. Caddyshack only gets a low 7 rating.
