Just saw this movie again, many funny scenes.
I hadn't seen this since it came out in 1988, though I don't remember much about it then. I thought it was a good comedy. It sets itself up to be a farce from the beginning. There are many scenes of nuanced humor. I especially liked the part where Chase is getting ready to start his new novel and he puts paper in the typewriter and whistles at the birds. He types the title, then chapter 1, then "THE", then he falls asleep. Later he passes off his wife's children's book instead of his own. Priceless comedy. I also like the part when his wife whacks the dog with the frying pan off screen. You hear a clunk, then she walks out with the arm and pan in hand, then we see the dog in the next scene with a cold pack on his head!!
This was one Chevy Chase's best movies. Too bad he practically disappeared in the 90s to present. I heard he was hard to work with.
There is no night as deep as this
Inevitable mind's abyss
Where I now dwell with foes alone
