I`m actually watching this film right now... i`m convinced that yellow dog is a lab. Here`s a picture of another "yellow dog" ..... http://www.javajane.co.uk/animal/dogs/yellow_labrador_old_dog.jpg ...yep, thats a lab.

Yellow dog is definitely a yellow labrador. I have a yellow lab camped out on my couch as I sit here watching Funny Farm and he is doing a great imitation of the dog in the movie!
