I'm sorry but could they have made the wife any less attractive? I mean, I know they were in love and devoted to eachother but YUCK!
"And where did she get that dress? Its aweful . . . and those shoes, and that coat, geeeeeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzz." (Airplane, 1980)
I think he was falling for the new girl at one point but anyway, I think those middle eastern guys looked like nice enough guys - she would have done very well with them.
It wasn't that - Walker and the girl are getting alone well considering the circumstances. His wife was annoying I was surprised to learn later on, after watching the scenes in the hotel room, that they were actually married and even had kids.
Even though the wife was annoying and less attractive, she did have history with Dr. Richard Walker. They've been through a lot of good and bad together. I appreciate how it counts for something in this movie.
So many movies and TV shows have people throw over their mate at the slightest drop of the hat. No matter how much the partner may have suffered and supported the other person. It's like a good looking face and body could cancel out everything.
Wow, different opinions I admit but Michelle in that biker hat, regular jeans and shirt was pretty hot. She started blazing with that leather skirt and red dress. Betty is talented but if you're stuck with someone French and hot as Michelle than I can't blame you if something goes down.
I agree, Seigner is ravishing, but part of what makes this such an awesome film is that Ford's character is so terrified and so obsessed with finding his wife that what might have been his normal response to such a gorgeous girl is completely shut down. His hormones are feeding his urgency, not his libido. What could have been a torrid affair is confined by the situation to being a reluctant camaraderie. The two actors handle this relationship brilliantly, as does Polanski. Magnifique!
I certainly believe this is a Dr. Walker conflict at some point in the movie... At the A Touch of Class bar. But Walker finds the youung Michelle to be too wild for him; that's why he can't approach to her.
He goes to meet with the terrorists alone; he does not take Michelle with him in an attemp to protect her.
Remember there is also symbolism when both women walk toward each other at the riverside... both in red dress, they look at each other in the eye.
Finally, I strongly believe THIS is the reason why Michelle dies in the end.
You know, folks, that scene where she's driving and rubbing some drugs into her mouth? I'd be uterlly disgusted if that was portrayed by any other actress than Emanuelle Seigner. On the contrary, that one scene even almost made me to want to start on doing drugs :)
That whole airport scene was hilarious! I liked that one woman was practically calling Dr. Walker(Ford) a cheater and was eyeing Michelle something fierce. Loved how Michelle told her off. Seems Dr. Walker associates(the guy in the airport and at the nightclub) were applauding him having a babe on his arm.
Oh yes, definitely Emanuelle made me want to snort ten pounds of cocaine by watching her doing it in the movie(rolling eyes). I agree with one of the posters that said that the red dress had a symbolism of some kind. I think Richard Walkers taste in women with red dresses was obvious. I do think it is or was going to take a long time for Ford to get the woman out of his mind and return back into a normal state of mind.
Also if you read one of the other comments, not in the threads but in the comments part you'll read something like this
Has anyone noticed the regret in Harrison Ford's eyes, just before the movie's end? He hugs his dutifully rescued bland wife, and fighting back his tears he whispers "I love you baby". Alas, not to her: to the soul of the fragile, exciting, dangerous, scandalous little drifter who died in his arms; and to the brief dash of "walking on the wild side" that, for a few precious days, brought excitement - and guilt feelings, given the circumstances - in an otherwise very respectable and utterly boring life.
Oh by the way if you think Betty Buckley is rather "unattractive", you should check out a movie named Carrie. I remember seeing her in that movie with longer hair, much, much younger and jacking off to her on a daily basis.....I'm kidding of course, but you're not going to believe that either lol.
Walker may had been shot at, his wife kidnap, and poor Michelle was killed but after its all over he going to have some good memories. Heck he could write a book which could be the basis to a sequel.
I don't know if it was Betty Buckley or the way the role was written but the wife was DULL and annoying and the young French hottie aside, she didn't seem to have much going for her.
