really slow
This is a movie that might actually benefit from a remake with faster editing and more propulsive camera movement. Polanski directs in such a static fashion.

shareI totally disagree, OP.
shareIf it was made now then probably it would have faster cuts but it was made 26 years ago.
Its that man again!!
Yeah and The Godfather could also benefit with more explosive camera movements and faster editing too; and that goes for Citizen Kane.
How about you whip out your Canon DSLR and remake them both in HD. Adobe Premiere will help you create some fast cutting and exciting transitions.
The slow pace worked for me.
shareI don't necessarily agree with faster editing and explosive camera movements, but the story certainly drags, especially in the second and third acts. I feel the film's pacing would have benefitted from 10 - 15 minutes being judiciously trimmed from segments such as the 2 different nightclub visits, the overlong interrogation of Michelle (which was in French anyway and yes, we picked up the clues about the "statue" very early on)and the half dozen or so discussions Richard has, with various hotel staff at different intervals.🐭
