symbolism

i just watched frantic and thought about some symbols in the film...
the number "2" or twins for example. We have the two girls in red in the end.
we have the two liberty statues. the bad guys are two, the other agents are two and there are many more "2"s in the movie.
So I am wondering about the meaning. Is it about second chance in Life, is it about how diffrend life could be with a second choice? Or is it about mix up and / or reality and fiction?

any guesses?

The scene at the end by the river I've always interpreted as being autobiographical of Polanski himself. He went to Hollywood as a conquering cinematic hero with Rosemary's Baby and Chinatown. Then scandal destroyed it all. After he fled from America, he eventually made his way to France, where he chose to remain for legal reasons. So, we see the Eiffel Tower on one end and the mini Statue of Liberty on the other as the two sides are fighting over the MacGuffin. Perhaps Polanski felt trapped between America and France, and as a Pole didn't really belong to either.

Not a symbol, but the blue parrot also reappears a couple of times: Michelle has a t-shirt and earrings with a blue parrot, she must be a real fan of that bar^^
