Bonus Feature on VHS Edition

For all of those who didn't know, after the movie on the VHS tape version, there's a 20-something minute production featurette. It's got interviews with the cast and crew. At best guess, it looks like a tv special that aired when
the movie first came out. So, if you didn't know about it, check it out!

Yes, I know what feature you speak of. I own this version and the sadly-lacking features dvd. I don't see why the feature wasn't included on the dvd, they are both made my Anchor Bay. I loved the Chasity Parrah (Eddie McGlure) feature. Too funny.

Is that on an american VHS tape then? Becouse i think i got my VHS tape from uk, and i don't think there is any bonuse feature on it. That's a bit rare, bonus on the old VHS version, but not on the DVD? The only VHS movie i can come to think of that has a bonus at the end is Blues Brothers 2000 VHS. (but that was also featured on the DVD.)

i'm gonna talk about something, and i think you ought to know,
some things today are bugging me, tell me if it ain't so,
i just have to complain about this new stow,
and how come there is no watchable tv-show,
it was diffrent just a few years ago,
i just have to say it, man - it was better before.
everybody says it was better before.
even though people were poor,
even though there were less merchandise at the store,
still, everybody seems to say - it was better before.
there were better songs on the radio,
old antenna was better than satilite dish, i disagree that the quality was low,
no strange tunes from a *beep* cellphone,
everybody says, everything these days, seems to be wrong,
and everywhere you go, everybody say the same thing - it was better before.
they say, you have to keep track on so many cards and codes,
there is so much confusion going on, you don't know where you've been, and don't know where to go,
a 74 year old told, it was easier to live back when i was 24,
houses were built with stability from the roof to the floor,
furniture didn't get delievered broke, but things doesn't work like that anymore,
everybody says - it was better before.
there are so many business men, making so much dow,
people buy all kinds of crap and can't say "no",
you can line up people of all ages in a row,
and they'll say - it was better before.

Actually the Elvira movie isn't owned by Anchor Bay. Anchor Bay purchased distribution rights to the film. The VHS version was under license through StarMaker which was owned before that by another company which again was owned by another... leading back to New World Pictures, which went bankrupt.

The owner of the actual rights to Elvira's first movie is Lakeshore Entertainment. The reason there was no extra footage on the DVD's is because it is no longer available since the last version released with those extras was through StarMaker before it was bought out by Lakeshore.

Cassandra (Elvira) Peterson however has a BOAT load of footage from the making of the film. Her (then) husband/manager Mark Pierson filmed hours and hours and hours of the making of the film, which is what the extra features were created with. However the extra features were only a SMALL fraction of the material that actually exists.

So now you're asking why this material hasn't been released on the latest DVD's through Anchor Bay. Well, I'm not 100% positive about this because I only have one side of the story... But the bottom line is, Cassandra get's no royalties for her first film. None whatsoever. So whenever you buy the DVD or watch it on Television, she is making no money from it. Which is why you rarely EVER see her promoting it.

So why isn't her personal footage on the new DVD you ask? Well (again this is just one side) from what I've understood Anchor Bay and Queen 'B' Productions (Cassandra's Company) can't come to an agreement on how much they should pay her for this material. If she can't get royalties off the film, she should rightly so receive them off the extra footage. This however has yet to pan out and all the exclusive, behind the scenes, making of footage sits in a climate controlled storage facility along with the episodes of her original television series "Movie Macabre."

At least Shout! Factory has managed to get rights to six (so far) of the films and now you can buy those six episodes of Movie Macabre on DVD now with the original footage of Elvira from the early 1980's INTACT.

As for the aforementioned footage... we'll just have to wait and see...

Just to clarify, the featurettes aren't on the original New World US video releases (which features Chastity and Elvira tied to the stake on the cover). They appeared on the end of the 1994 "Special Edition" which was put out as a collaborative effort by R&G Video, Starmaker and Anchor Bay. The cover for this edition shows Elvira lying in a patch of fog, and it clearly cites the extra 12+ minutes of featurettes on the back of the box. Buyer beware: there was a good quality release transfered in SP, but there was also a crummy quality SLP release of the tape, and you can't tell by looking at the box which is which (the tape itself looks short on the SLP release).

Similarly, the R&G/Starmaker/Anchor Bay VHS release of "Heathers" and "House" (both of which were also originally released by New World) have extra featurettes that aren't available on the subsequent Anchor Bay DVDs.

Back on topic, here's hoping Cassandra can strike a deal with Anchor Bay (which is now predominantly known as Starz Home Entertainment) to release a special edition DVD filled with extras!

That is a depressing story. I can understand why Cassandra would want to hold unto her extras. Until someone coughs up the dough, all the fans are gonna be cheated out of seeing all the sweet behind the scenes crap that we live for! You think Anchor Bay would get wise.

Speaking of the VHS version of this movie, can anyone tell me who sang the version of "Under the Boardwalk" that appears on the original VHS version of this movie? I love that version of the song, and since I can't find any original VHS copies of the Elvira movie, I can't just look and see who sang it. Please, does anyone know? Not even the mighty Google seems to know.

"Under the Boardwalk" was never in the movie, and no songs were changed for the DVD, as far as I know. I believe the soundtrack section here on imdb lists all of the songs that were in the film -- most of which were never released.

I'm one of those guys that buys all of the dvds of the vhs copies that they really like, Elvira is one of them. I have given away all of my VHS copies to other people, but this is one of the few that I have kept, for the special features. First off, it was a special feature before special features where even the norm. And I highly doubt that "Elvira, Mistress of the Dark" will get a re-pressing in the near future, if ever again. What sucks about really digging a "under the (bra) wire" celebrity like this is, there has to be a lot of noise in order for a new reincarnation. But isn't that what our girl who put the "boob" back in the boob tube did single handedly with all of the movies that she reintroduced to a new audience? Yes. She wants to be around longer, and personally, I would like her to be. It's a rare occasion to have a true laugh anymore, and really, what girl with her tits hanging out wants you to laugh in the first place, that means something. She is pure woman, and smart. Why girls don't idolize her instead of Lindsay Lohan, I have no clue. Classy does not compete with trashy! (Im not an ugly retard fanboy whos never been laid either)

I have an old VHS copy of the movie, and at the beginning of the tape, before the movie starts a music video for "Under the Boardwalk" plays. It looks like it has pieces of a movie spliced in, maybe it is for a trailor or something

reply

that was a video trailer for the movie under the boardwalk.

I think the version you're looking for is by a group called The Untouchables. There's a soundtrack of the film available - out of print but Amazon has used copies very cheap.

You can listen to a soundclip here on one of their full albums - track 6:
