loved this movie as a kid

I don't even remember why, but probably the weirdness of it all, I used to watch this and Beetlejuice when it was showing on t.v. Come to think of it, it'd be kind of neat to see Elvia and Bettlejuice together in a movie or a show or something.

I'm like a bad penny, I always turn up.

So did I, and the silly part was I didn't understand half of it. Like when Bob is hanging the letters on the Marquee and one falls on Elvira's head.

Bob: "How's you head"?
Elvira: "Well I haven't had any complaints yet"!

I had no idea what that was suppose to mean, and yet I thought it was sooooo funny! I guess when you have a character like Elvira, it doesn't really matter what's coming out of her mouth.

P.S. I met Elvira a little over a year ago and she still looks fabulous!

I just finished watching it again after about 15 years, and it's way funnier! Mostly because now I get all the lame innuendos.

And someone told me they are trying to recruit a new "Elvira". That makes me sick! Cassandra Peterson will always be the ONLY "Mistress of the Dark"!

also......... She's still hot as hell.

The 'new' Elvira wasn't so much a new Elvira at all. The intial idea Cassandra had was great, find a few Elvira's to fill in for her at the lesser paying gigs.

Her reasoning:

We see hundreds of Santa's at the Malls, why not an army of Elvira look-alikes?

Elvira gets tons of appearance requests so the idea was to find ANOTHER Elvira to show up at the car-wash or grocery store (joke!) while the Real Elvira goes to the big appearances.

The problem is, no one WANTS another Elvira! The ONLY time any Elvira impersonator, or look-alike has been received well are her male look-alikes. Then again drag has always been campy and fun.

As for the film, the humor and plot hold up VERY well even against todays standards. I've shown this movie to numerous teenagers and early 20 year olds who ROAR with laughter at the things that are said and done.

It's not too far of a leap to remark that Rob Zombie ripped off one of Elvira's lines for his latest Halloween remake. During a scene in Rob's film Dr. Loomis' assistant makes a statement to which Dr. Loomis replies "If I want your opinion, I'll beat it out of you." The entire theater went into hysterics. I thought "wow...." her lines are still relevant and funny.

That line was hysterical! I think Zombie and Cassandra are actually friends... though I could be mistaken.

I like Elvira and I like this film quite a bit, so I'm not negatively criticizing her, but quite a few lines she used like that were pretty much cliches already during that era. I'd have to research where they originated (if that's even known), but they were common to hear when I was in high school for example (which was the end of the 70s/beginning of the 80s). For me, that's part of what makes Elvira funny--that she said a lot of irreverent-but-cliched things like that; it gives the character a kind of dorky side.

This movie really takes me back. I remember watching it on NBC when I was young. ^_^

Same here. I used to love watching Elvira in the late 80's - early 90's.
